A Year in the Fulbright Life is a blog serie about showcasing a handful of students as they study in the United States. Each month, spotlighted students share an update as they continue on their Fulbright journey.

October 2022

In early October, I had the chance to visit the Thousand Islands and Boldt Castle, located along the peaceful border between northern New York and Ontario, Canada. The story behind Boldt Castle is heart-warming, and the exhibit inside showed a tribute from the billionaire George Boldt to his beloved wife Louise.

Before the end of October, I wanted to conclude the Fall season with a memorable hike at the majestic, picturesque Watkins Glen State Park. We took the seemingly difficult Gorge Trail Loop, which we’d heard was worth the hike! Along the 800 stone steps, enjoying the nineteen different waterfalls along the way made the hike more fun, rewarding, and much less daunting.

Since I’ve arrived in the United States, I’ve become passionate about tracing the Fall foliage here in Syracuse into my notebook. Hence, I visited Upper Onondaga Park for a quick hike to enjoy the Hiawatha Lake view and the colorful foliage.

December 2022

Lastly, on December 12th, I attended the Nutcracker Magical Christmas Ballet show in Syracuse. The show was celebrating its 30th-anniversary tour. I was very fascinated by the dancers’ enchanting performance, and I had an excellent time!

Sara is a 2021 Fulbright student from Egypt. She is studying Library Science at Syracuse University.
