A Year in the Fulbright Life: Rand’s Story
For the next year, Fulbright MENA will be showcasing a handful of students as they study in the United States with their new series, A Year in the Fulbright Life. Each month, spotlighted students will share an update as they continue on their Fulbright journey.
July 2019
I’ve arrived in Portland for my Pre-Academic Program! We got to go to a local artisan chocolate factory, Creo, based in Portland and we made our own chocolate bars. It was such a unique experience. We learned about the process and met the owner!
We had a course about presenting and speech skills as part of our pre-academic program in Portland. This was my group and my professor, our topic was about Inclusiveness in America, we got to conduct a survey and it was the best teamwork experience ever.
This photo was taken the day I arrived to my host university in Iowa. I met 3 other Fulbrighters from Algeria and Bangladesh!
February 2020
These photos are from my library. This is how we spend our days! Trying to get through assignments is as chaotic as it looks (but also fun).
Here, I am with Fulbrighters from all over the world. There are 5 countries represented here, including our newest friend from Ghana.
This month, I also visited Boston with another Jordanian Fulbrighter. We met in Philadelphia (where she lives) and did a short road trip on the East Coast.
Rand is a first-year Fulbright student from Jordan. She is studying English Literature at the University of Northern Iowa.
