A Year in the Fulbright Life: Hamdi’s Story
For the next year, Fulbright MENA will be showcasing a handful of students as they study in the United States with their new series, A Year in the Fulbright Life. Each month, spotlighted students will share an update as they continue on their Fulbright journey.
October 2020:
Recently, I had the chance to make new friends through activities at my university. Although it was the first time we met, I felt attached to the beauty of their souls. The picture itself epitomizes unforgettable memories. I am blessed to be a part of such an amazing friendship community.
Good times and crazy friends make always the best moments. While each one of us is from a different country, we formed a perfect team that shares one common goal: having fun while winning!
December 2020:
The first thing to do after you’re done with your semester is to enjoy the nature. Fresh air, charming landscapes, and good company are always the perfect therapy for the city’s noise and projects’ pressure.

“Cold hands, warm hearts.” Always find time to enjoy the company of your friends. Recently I got to try sledding for the first time with some of my classmates and friends.
Life is full of ups and downs, the more you fail the more likely you learn a new skill. This was during my visit to New York City’s Central Park. I thought it was going to be an easy task to learn. However, once I stepped onto the ice-skating rink, I realized how tough it is to maintain your equilibrium. I fell more than I could remember, but with each fall I learned a new technique. I believe it took me hours to learn the first steps. Life is full of challenges and obstacles that you cannot overcome unless you fully believe in your potential. It might take some time; you might be disappointed for a while but, believe me, perseverance and patience are key factors behind every success.

My recent spring break trip to Miami was one of my best experiences ever! I grew up watching Hollywood movies featuring Miami and always dreamed of visiting Florida one day. This city was one of the many destinations on my list and I planned to explore every inch.
The Miami Wynwood Art District was one of my favorite parts of the city because of how unique and impressive the art is. People from all over the world come to Miami just to see the murals. The beaches, sunny weather, and the cultural melting pot of the people made me realize how magical this city is.
I also visited The Hard Rock Café, which is unlike any other place I’ve seen before. It’s such a captivating place with a waterfront patio covered in memorabilia of so many music legends.
Hamdi is a first-year Fulbright student from Tunisia. He is studying Engineering Management at Pennsylvania State University.
