A Year in the Fulbright Life: Anas’ Story:
For the next year, Fulbright MENA will be showcasing a handful of students as they study in the United States with their new series, A Year in the Fulbright Life. Each month, spotlighted students will share an update as they continue on their Fulbright journey.
January 2020
I enjoyed a birthday/farewell party a few weeks before finals where all my friends gathered to celebrate the end of the semester and welcome the winter break. I had to say goodbye to some people who went back home, which was hard. These friends gave me the support I needed being away from home.
A dream came true on a rainy day when I went to Disney World. I spent an amazing day living my childhood dream with two of my Fulbright friends.
My first ice skating attempt was a failure, but it was extremely fun. I had to use some of my friends as support, and they did a good job helping.
The first stop was Washington, D.C. on an East Coast trip with two of my Fulbright friends. On this trip, we landed in D.C. and took buses to visit Philadelphia, NYC, and Boston. It was an unforgettable experience.
February 2020
During February, I tried skiing for the first time! Surprisingly, it went very well and wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
I also took a trip to the upper peninsula of Michigan. This was a great chance to see the real beauty of the nature of Michigan. Walking on a frozen lake was a unique experience.
Anas is a Fulbright student from Libya.
